And then my markers started to die.

And then they were dead with no refill in sight.

And then we got bored and started drawing the models as robots.

More Lost World characters

Not sold on Summerlee yet, but I’m liking Roxton.

Professor Challenger

Here’s a character study for Professor Challenger from Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The lost World.”

I *love* this character. Maybe because he’s a self-important self-righteous prick. ;)

Life Drawing

First ever life drawing session.
1minuteWarmup sketches (1 minutes)
Got tired of the drafting pencil in a real hurry.

Tried to sketch with copics.
Copic life drawing
kinda fun actually. Ruined a couple of my best pencil drawings which were on the other side though, whoops.

You know… other than pictures of me with a wang the size of a buick…. I think this is the first time I’ve ever drawn nekkid peoples.

Kraven

Quick B&W Kraven the Hunter sketch for no good reason.

Hard not to make him look like a porn star or Freddy Mercury with that ’stache.

Second Attempt

Here’s my second attempt at that Zena pic, this time with the Ref on the same screen right next to my work window. I guess its not significantly better. Bah. I suck.

My setup (for Dean)

I was experiencing some neck/shoulder pain after long work sessions and realized my Cintiq still wasn’t quite high enough for my comfort. So I raised it up off the desk a little.

This also provides enough clearance for Portrait mode if I ever wanted to work like that.

Luckily, my curved desk provides a nice place to rest my elbows.

Skiing with Dad

Skiing with Dad

Dad bought me some new cross country skis for my birthday. Here is an action shot of us Skiing.

Dual-screen experiment

So I hear all the cool kids have multiple monitors, and I thought it might be nice if I had a second screen to keep my reference photos so I could dedicate the Cintiq to all-work space. I hooked up a 15″ CRT as my second screen and tried to sketch on the Cintiq from the photo on the CRT.

I’m not really happy with it. Sitting so close to the Cintiq screen, it was awkward to have to turn my head and look at the reference monitor. And I don’t like the results of the sketch. I probably would have nailed the likeness and body language better if the photo were right next to my drawing window. :/

Maybe I need Wacom to make a 32″ Cintiq. :) It would be a bitch to rotate though.

Oh I have no idea.

I dunno
just doodling random shit, but I like the face/hair.

Boogie Nights 54:38

This one made it clear to me why most folks do tight shots when they draw from screen grabs — this one took me three times longer than the Malkovitch sketch. After getting the placement and proportion of the forms right, I struggled with the cameraman and Burt’s expressions, and then I drew Macy’s face in like a minute. Of course, as is often the case, I like him the best. This was a good one for me, because I often start drawing details before finishing the roughing in, but this time I made sure the shapes were all there before working tight. boogie.jpg

Being John Malkovitch 2:42

So I decided to do some drawing from movie screen grabs over the weekend. This one was super loose and fast but there’s something about the eye and nose that I really like. malko.jpg

Beware the Jellypus

I was thinking about how much I miss scuba diving today. :)

I am definitely not slacking

Here’s a sketch of my boy, from a picture sitting on my desk at the office, at which I am sitting, not doing any work that will either put money in my pockets or food in his mouth. I assure you, the child is more beautiful than this drawing would lead you to believe.    gusto.jpg
